Five-Spice Stuffed Lotus Root

Summary:

Five-spice stuffed lotus root is a fragrant and soft-textured vegetarian snack, combining lotus root with sweet red bean paste and a hint of five-spice aroma.

Ingredients:

Lotus root 2 sections (peeled and cut into segments)

Sweet red bean paste 150g

Star anise 2 pieces

Cinnamon stick 1 small piece

Bay leaves 2 pieces

Five-spice powder 1/2 teaspoon

Rock sugar 40g

Salt a pinch

Water appropriate amount

Instructions:

1.Prepare the Lotus Root:

Peel and cut the lotus root into segments. Fill one end with sweet red bean paste, pressing it in firmly.

2.Make the Spiced Broth:

In a pot, add water, star anise, cinnamon stick, bay leaves, rock sugar, salt, and five-spice powder. Bring to a boil.

3.Cook the Stuffed Lotus Root:

Place the stuffed lotus root into the pot and simmer over low heat for 40–50 minutes until flavorful.

4.Soak for Extra Flavor:

Turn off the heat and let the lotus root soak in the broth for 1–2 hours for a richer taste.

5.Slice and Serve:

Remove the lotus root, slice into thick pieces, and drizzle with some broth before serving.
