Salt and Pepper Healthy Tofu

Summary:

This is a crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside vegan dish where tofu is fried to golden perfection and tossed with salt and pepper seasoning, creating a flavorful and nutritious meal or snack.

Ingredients:

Soft or firm tofu 300g (cut into cubes)

Cornstarch 50g (for coating)

Salt and pepper seasoning 1 teaspoon

White pepper powder 1/2 teaspoon (optional)

Five-spice powder 1/2 teaspoon (optional)

Salt 1/2 teaspoon

Red chili powder 1/2 teaspoon (optional)

Toasted white sesame seeds 1 teaspoon (optional)

Vegetable oil as needed (for frying)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Tofu:
Cut the tofu into small cubes or strips. Use a paper towel to gently press and remove excess moisture, ensuring a crispier texture when fried.

2. Coat with Starch:
In a bowl, mix cornstarch, five-spice powder (optional), white pepper powder (optional), and salt. Lightly coat each tofu piece with the dry mixture, ensuring even coverage.

3. Fry the Tofu:
Heat vegetable oil in a pan to about 170°C. Fry the tofu pieces until golden and crispy (about 3-5 minutes). Remove and drain excess oil.

4. Prepare the Seasoning:
In a small bowl, mix salt and pepper seasoning, red chili powder (optional), and toasted white sesame seeds (optional).

5. Toss the Tofu:
In a pan with a little oil, add the fried tofu and sprinkle the seasoning mix. Quickly toss to coat the tofu evenly.

6. Serve and Enjoy:
Transfer to a serving plate and enjoy immediately. The dish is crispy, savory, and full of umami flavors.
