Crispy Sesame Stuffed Flatbread

Summary:

This is a crispy-on-the-outside, sweet-on-the-inside vegan pastry where fragrant black sesame filling is wrapped in a simple dough, creating a delightful and traditional Chinese treat.

Ingredients:

(Flatbread Dough)

All-purpose flour 250g

Warm water 130ml

Salt 1/2 teaspoon

Vegetable oil 2 tablespoons

(Black Sesame Filling)

Toasted black sesame seeds 80g

Sugar 40g (adjust to taste)

Vegetable oil 1 tablespoon

Glutinous rice flour 1 tablespoon (for better texture)

Water 1 tablespoon

(For Frying)

Vegetable oil as needed

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Dough:
In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Gradually add warm water and stir until a rough dough forms. Knead into a smooth dough, cover, and let rest for 30 minutes.

2. Make the Sesame Filling:
Grind the toasted black sesame seeds in a blender or mortar. Mix with sugar, vegetable oil, glutinous rice flour, and water until a soft paste forms. Set aside.

3. Divide the Dough:
Knead the rested dough again and divide it into 6 equal portions, rolling each into a small ball.

4. Fill the Dough:
Flatten each dough ball into a small circle, place some sesame filling in the center, and seal tightly. Gently press into a round flat shape.

5. Pan-Fry the Flatbreads:
Heat vegetable oil in a pan over low heat. Cook each flatbread for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.

6. Serve and Enjoy:
Let cool slightly before serving. The crispy crust and sweet sesame filling make this a delicious and comforting treat.
