父子寻金
过去，有父子二人一起居住。儿子入山砍柴时，看见泉水中有闪闪发亮的黄金，即回家要求父亲分家，以方便入山采金。儿子向父亲说：「所有财物都归你，你只要给我一辆牛车、两斛米、一把斧头及荻草一枚，其他东西我都不要。」父亲不赞同儿子的想法，极力劝阻，但儿子仍坚持前往，于是父亲对儿子说：「如果你一定要去，就不要再回来了。」
儿子入山挖掘泉水中的黄金，经过数日仍无所获。一天，父亲到山里探视儿子时，发现水中的金子原来是山头上金矿的倒影，经由阳光的折射，好似水中有金。于是父亲爬上山头，以木棒将金块敲打落地。父亲对儿子说：「要这样寻找黄金才对，如果像你一直在泉水中挖掘，要挖到何时呢？」
不知如何寻金的儿子，如同不能持守五戒的人，只是一味追逐声色六尘，一旦失去人身，岂易再得？而懂得如何寻金的父亲，好似明白根本与枝末道理的聪明人，持守五戒并修行十善，将感得升天的果报，世世保有人身，最终必能成就佛果。

A Father and Son Searching for Gold
In the past, there was a father and son who lived together. One day, while the son was cutting wood in the mountains, he saw shining gold in a spring. He immediately returned home and asked his father to divide the family property so that he could go into the mountains to collect the gold more conveniently.
The son said to his father, “All the property belongs to you. I only ask for an ox cart, two bushels of rice, an axe, and a piece of reed grass. I do not need anything else.”
The father disagreed with his son’s idea and tried his best to dissuade him, but the son insisted on going. So the father said to him, “If you must go, then do not come back again.”
The son went into the mountains and began digging for gold in the spring, but after several days, he found nothing.
One day, the father went into the mountains to check on his son. He discovered that the gold in the water was actually just the reflection of a gold mine on the mountaintop, refracted by the sunlight, making it appear as if there was gold in the water.
So, the father climbed up the mountaintop and used a wooden stick to knock the gold nuggets down to the ground.
The father said to his son, “This is the correct way to search for gold. If you keep digging in the spring, when will you ever find it?”
A son who does not know how to search for gold is like a person who fails to uphold the Five Precepts, blindly chasing after the six sensory desires. Once a human body is lost, how difficult it is to regain it!
A father who understands how to find gold is like a wise person who comprehends the difference between fundamental and superficial principles.
By upholding the Five Precepts and practicing the Ten Good Deeds, one will receive the blessings of rebirth in the heavenly realms, ensuring the continuation of human existence in every life. Ultimately, one will surely attain Buddhahood.
