Nori Yam Rolls

Summary:

This is a light and nutritious vegan dish where tender steamed yam is wrapped in umami-rich nori, creating a soft yet flavorful roll that is easy to prepare and delicious to eat.

Ingredients:

Chinese yam 200g (peeled and cut into strips)

Nori sheets 4 (for wrapping)

Toasted white sesame seeds 1 tablespoon (optional, for extra aroma)

Light soy sauce 1 tablespoon

Vegetarian oyster sauce 1 tablespoon (optional)

Salt 1/4 teaspoon

White pepper powder to taste (optional)

Sesame oil 1/2 tablespoon (for fragrance)

Water 1 tablespoon (for sealing the rolls)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Yam:
Peel the yam and cut it into long strips (about 5-7 cm in length). Soak in water for 2 minutes to prevent oxidation.

2. Steam the Yam:
Place the yam strips in a steamer and steam for 8-10 minutes until tender but still holding their shape. Let them cool.

3. Season the Yam:
Transfer the steamed yam to a bowl, add light soy sauce, vegetarian oyster sauce (optional), salt, and white pepper powder (optional). Gently mix to coat the yam evenly.

4. Wrap with Nori:
Take a sheet of nori and place a seasoned yam strip at one end. Roll it tightly, sealing the edge with a small amount of water.

5. Enhance the Flavor (Optional):
Lightly brush the surface of the nori roll with sesame oil and sprinkle some toasted sesame seeds for extra aroma and taste.

6. Slice and Serve:
Use a sharp knife to cut the nori yam rolls into smaller pieces, then arrange them on a serving plate.

7. Enjoy:
Serve as is or with a side of light soy sauce or wasabi soy dip. The rolls are soft, umami-rich, and refreshingly tasty.
